Laura Nolan - Trauma Therapy

Donation protected
Right everyone,

I am trying to raise funds for my friend Laura Nolan, who somehow found incredible strength and determination to found the Joshua Nolan foundation after her son took his own life nearly 5 years ago.

The Joshua Nolan foundation is a charity setup to support people who cannot afford quality counselling. Currently even if you are in a crisis and go through the NHS, you are put on these 4 month NHS waitlists. Which is totally insane. And, for example when Laura finally received counselling on the NHS months after her son died she was told by the counsellor “I’m not sure what to say to you” - because the counsellor wasn’t properly trained in ordeals like hers.

Now, I’ve had the fortunate opportunity to live with Laura for the last few months and have seen first-hand how tirelessly she works towards her goal of reducing suicide rates in Scotland(the biggest male killer between ages 20-49). She travels all around Edinburgh visiting schools to support and educate young people about suicide and mental health, she’s constantly fund-raising, and creating links with local businesses, offering all of her time to anyone who is in need of help or support, tackling each situation with her boundless positive energy and radiance of love and care. If you know her, you know she puts smiles on even the saddest people’s faces, no matter if you’re her best friend, or random person in the street. If you see a random tiny blonde chick chatting to homeless people in Haymarket handing out polos or random food, it’s probably her.

Now, suicide is hard for any person to talk about but if you’ve experienced first-hand trauma like this and have to face it daily to be able to talk about it, you relive it all the time; and yet Laura trudges on and does this anyway, even though I can see how much each event takes it's toll. She fights on because she never wishes anyone to have to experience what she and her son have.

Laura had therapy shortly after Josh died but it’s been a few years since she’s had the funds to access any additional support, and she is in desperate need again as her work has really taken it’s toll. Unfortunately, she cannot get help through her own charity which she setup specifically for this, because of regulations.

So, I’m really asking for your help, to be able to raise funds to pay for 18 months of specialist therapy and support. The rate is approximately £70 per session, meaning we need to raise £5.5k to cover the next 18 months. However, depending on how much we raise, it will let her see what additional options are available, such as a specialist treatment centre or therapy for a longer period of time. Her mental well-being is so important to her, because it enables her to achieve the goal of eradicating suicide in not only Scotland, but world-wide, and there’s no-one better person to be able to be fighting for this cause.

Seriously, if there’s anyone who is needing your help and support now, it’s this wee lassie. Please show your support by donating, just a little. If everyone on her facebook page donates even just a fiver, she’ll have enough funds to access support for the next 18 months.

SO LETS BAND TOGETHER AND GET IT TO HER!!
