Large reforestation project in Nicaragua

Donation protected

Deforestation for economic purpose has put many of Nicaragua's and  our world’s natural ecosystems under pressure. The forest is first harvested for the value of the timber, then it is used for grazing cattle. Over time the soil washes away and the land loses its fertility, becoming of little value for agriculture or ecology and the forest is also vital to provide fresh water. This is a vicious cycle that continues to put pressure on our local environment as well as contribute significantly to global climate change. We believe the time to act is now. Join our efforts WE can make a difference.

The vision of the Collado reserve, is to restore and permanently protect land creating ideal conditions for carbon sequestration, water retention, and wildlife habitat. We also envision a strong local economy built around conservation, ecotourism and environmental awareness.

The Collado reserve is spearheaded by Costa Dulce Retreat, Vital Actions (www.vitalactions.org), and the local community of Collado, and will be made possible through the donations of separate individuals who see the value in leaving our planet in better state then how we found it.

The Collado Reserve progress to date :

20 acres of deforested land is already being protected, reforested and sustained by Vital Actions in partnership with the local community. In the future we wish to expand the reserve up to 1200 acre, empowering the locals to build an economy based on conservation and environmental stewardship.

At this moment, there is a neighboring lot for sale for 20.000 $ from a Nicaraguan politician from Managua, which could be protected and reforested by the community. With the lot having a little house and a well on it, it makes the perfect permanent set-up base for all our future reforestation efforts throughout the reserve.

The whole idea of buying the land through (smaller) donations is to perpetually protect the reserve so the land can not longer be sold and exploited as a whole. Besides, part of the reserve could be used for ecotourism purposes, such as hiking and wildlife research in the future.
Buy land - 20 000$ : In order to accomplish this mission, we need your support!
Basically, 1000 $, will buy you one acre , but each cent definitely counts and will be invested in sustaining Nicaraguan Wildlife and community. This way, 25 ct will buy you 1 square meter and 2,5 ct will buy you 1 square feet of the reserve. So if you for example donate 50$, you’d buy 200 square meter/ 20 square feet, a space that can be used to plant about 7 trees. With one tree providing about 100 kg of oxygen yearly, planting few trees could already have a positive impact on your carbon footprint and the environment as a whole. This way, you compensate the carbon footprint emitted by our daily lifestyle and transform it into trees, oxygen and therefore life.

Do you want to make a change for yourself, wildlife and  the community as a whole?

This campaign will be executed and administered by Tyson Harris & Tim Rusmisel, the owners of Costa Dulce & Vital Actions. 100% of proceeds will go into the fund of the land, while future effort & donations will support the forestation & community employment itself. We will post progress about our “Reforestation & Carbon Offset Program’, allowing you to experience the impact of your contribution.

Legality: The reserve will be held in a land trust that permanently prevents sale or any exploitation.  If you want to be involved in the trust or helping on the ground please contact us.

Deforestation for economic purpose has put many of Nicaragua's precious ecosystems under pressure.
It's time to find a solution that supports both the biodiversity and recovery of wildlife, while simultaneously offering prosperity for the local community.

This is the idea of the Collado reserve, a natural reserve, that will be sustained by local farmers and bought & reforested by the joint effort of both Costa Dulce Community, Vital Actions (www.vitalactions.org) and anyone who is willing to contribute to volunteer or donate.

At this moment we purchased 20 acre from locals, we employ them and we wish to expand in the future -up to 1200 in 2030-... Protecting the Collado Reserve and using it for ecotourism purposes, like hiking & research, in order to create prosperity in the surrounding village.

At this moment, there is a neigboring lot for sale, which could be an excellent base, for our future reforestation efforts. Especially since it has a little house on it and a well, which could be used as a permanent set-up base for this large forestation project.

Buy land, plant trees : But in order to accomplish this, we need your support!
Basically, 1000 $, will buy us one acre... Each cent counts with 25 ct providing us with 1 square meter and 2,5 ct for 1 square feet of the reserve.

Your footprint - make a change : Besides, we offer Carbon Offset programmes at Costa Dulce, where you can 'buy' your carbon footprint and transform it into new trees, oxygen and life. With one tree providing us with about 100 kg of oxygen yearly, planting few trees could definitely make a positive change for your footprint and for the environment.
