Lewiston/Auburn Rattle

Donation protected
Lewiston/Auburn Rattle is a public art project that will help transform the downtowns of the Twin Cities of Maine. Its groundbreaking is currently being prepared on a vacant lot at 163 Lisbon Street in Lewiston. On Friday, August 28th, (the night of Art Walk L/A), there will be a public ribbon cutting ceremony at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate the installation of the piece.

Realizing Lewiston/Auburn Rattle cannot happen without full funding. Over three-quarters of the necessary resources have been raised; now the search is on for individual donors to maintain this momentum through to the project’s completion.  Although meant to be a staple of L/A for a number of years, the piece is built to be temporary and movable.

This Go Fund Me campaign will last one month, kicking off on July 31st and ending on installation day.  L/A Arts and project partners are seeking $5000 to cover the final direct costs (light poles, materials, elements, finish & paint), that are necessary to complete the colorful 20+ foot, seven element sculpture.  L/A Arts and partners are proud to report that ZERO municipal funding has gone/will go toward this project.  Also, all individual donations to this project for this GoFundMe campaign will go directly to the sculpture costs and ZERO will go to L/A Arts (including administrative).

This is a unique opportunity to get directly involved to help to secure the necessary funding to realize this important piece of public art. Each individual element is inspired by the rich heritage and art history in Lewiston/Auburn, with French (Fleur de lis), Somali, and world renowned local artist Marsden Hartley inspirations in the piece.

Sculptures endure. When placed mindfully in public spaces, they can inspire imagination and pride among generations of a community. Show your commitment to Lewiston’s revitalization with the enduring power of sculpture—support Lewiston/Auburn Rattle.

L/A Arts and partners are proud to work on this project with sculptor, painter, and printmaker Charlie Hewitt, an artist with decades of experience, an impressive record of art showings, and personal roots in Lewiston/Auburn. His Urban Rattle on New York City’s West Side is the model for Lewiston Rattle. For more information go to:
