Once upon a time, my platoon was on the verge of being overwhelmed by a massive force. Without hesitation an entire battalion rode out to save us. These brave men, most of whom I had never met, threw themselves into the jaws of the enemy to attempt our rescue. Their effort pulled the heat off of us long enough to strengthen our defense. Several dozen were horribly wounded, six died, my platoon lived.
Ten years to the day later I met the family of one of those heroes. I shook his mother's hand, expressed my deepest sorrow for her massive loss and made a stumbling promise to make his sacrifice count. So a year later I opened my home and ranch as place for veterans with PTSD to gather and heal. Lancer Legacy Ranch was born.
Now LLR occupies a 25,000 square foot building in Maud, Texas and is the largest veteran shelter in east Texas. We are raising money to hire two veterans full time who are currently working for free. Donate and make a difference.
