Send Chelsea to Haiti

Hello friends! My name is Chelsea Colvin, I am 24 years old, and as most of you know, I have a huge heart for missions.

After studying missions at Highlands College and going on two mission trips to Haiti, the Lord has really opened my eyes to His love for the lost and broken hearted.

Specifically, orphans.

I had the great opportunity in July 2014 to go on my first mission trip to Haiti with a group from Church of the Highlands to work with an organization called Life is Hope. I can truly say it was the most life changing experience I have ever had! After one year of studying missions and talking to people from the mission field, my heart was finally able to experience what everyone had been talking about. After nine days of loving children, doing skits, painting walls, and sweating a whole lot, I truly felt at home.

I was living out what He had placed on my heart long
ago.

Coming back to the states was the hardest thing. I can't explain the sadness I was experiencing when I stepped off that plane. For weeks I didn't want to do anything but be by myself and talk to Jesus about my heart ache.

Two weeks after we got back, my spiritual mentor explained to me that the reason I felt depressed was because I discovered my purpose and was quickly placed back into reality. It finally all made sense.

Fast forward to December of 2014, I graduated Highlands College and began to look into internships that would help grow me for ministry. I looked at a church in California and was convinced that was were I would grow the most. Well, God had other plans :)

When that fell through, I began to look into internships overseas. After searching different organizations for weeks, I was on Facebook one day and saw a post from Life is Hope. It was a picture of the sweet children I once held. My heart immediatly skipped and I felt like that Lord said "this is it."

I immediatly started to pray and search for peace about this decision. "Three months" kept coming to mind and so I began to research. This internship was only 30 days max. I thought, "Lord? Is this not you?" But I still had a feeling that this was the right place.

I messaged one of the workers that lived there and asked if three months was even possible since it clearly stated 30 days MAX. She swiftly contacted me and said she would take my application to the board meeting the next week to discuss if it would be possible. I quickly filled it out and emailed it to her. Then the waiting process started.

Days after I contacted her, she e-mailed me with the wonderful news that I was accepted into the internship at Life is Hope and  that would be there for the whole summer!! Three months of sweating, loving children, serving, and loving the Haitian people like Christ wants them to be loved. I was so excited He was placing me there and was honored to be used!

That summer was everything I expected and more. I got to see what the missionary life really looks like and was taught things that I didn't think could be taught. I went into it wanting to see the good, the bad, and the ugly and I feel like I basically got to see all three to some extent.

Now I have the opportunity to go back. The Lord has already opened the door for me to purchase a plane ticket and now I only need to pay for my stay there. So the $700  I raise will go to my transportation, my room, and my food. It will also cover my luggage there and back and the food I will have to pay for while I sit through a 19 hour layover.

I really appreciate each of you taking time to read my story. I am trying to prepare financially, but most of all spiritually. I need the Lord to prepare my heart for when I leave and come back. I need Him to fill me so full of the Holy Spirit, that even with a communication barrior, I will be able to overflow His love into the hearts of the children of Haiti. I want to ask that you partner with me in prayer for this. I can't do this without Him and He is the reason I'm going.

Thank you again for reading and God bless,
Chelsea Colvin
