Crazy Generous in Guatemala

“When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you gave me.”
― Erma Bombeck

Bear with me…this is a bit long…but I hope you will take the time to read it.

Last year, my talented and smart eye doctor friend was posting about using her gifts in Guatemala to help the very needy of needy receive eye care.  While looking at the photos she was posting…I was a bit envious, wishing that I had a gift that could be used on a short-term overseas mission.    A few weeks later, I saw a posting from a fellow photographer that had returned from a mission trip – and WOW did her photos tell THE story.  I immediately knew I need to go.  So going I am.

I leave Feb 7th on a mission trip to Nebaj, Guatamala, where I will be the primary photographer bringing back the ‘story’ of our trip.  Hopefully using my skills to help others gain a vision on how they can one day help.

So while I personally funded this trip without asking for support....another lady posted a recommendation to watch the documentary ‘Living on One Dollar” (Available on Netflix). http://livingonone.org/livingonone/film/

YOU must GO watch this documentary!!   While watching the documentary – it was just eye opening to see what day laborers must do in order to survive.  Really, what any family does in these very small, poor towns in order to survive.   A Nebaj is one of those very poor towns.

After watching the documentary – it occurred to me.  What if I could go there and be so crazy generous with the workers around us – that it could change their lives for a few months!!  With that – I thought – I want to tip those workers serving us the week we are there (our maids, waitresses, and other servers) with a generous spirit like they have not seen before.  Can you imagine what that single act of kindness can do for a family who may live on $1 day!!

So with that, I set up a Go Fund Me page.  If you were touched by my deep thoughts of the day – please give a little if you are able!  If each of my ‘friends’ gave just $2  - we could make a huge difference in the life of a Guatemalan family.

I leave you with a blog post...another whisper from God today.  The blog was titled “We Go Nowhere by Accident” – Amen to that!!
