Help elderly get to synagogue
Donation protected
I am the rabbi of Temple Israel Community Center in Cliffsdie Park, N.J. We have many elderly in our community, and too many of them no longer can drive (or should not be driving). We have set up a way to bring them to synagogue for services and lunch on Saturdays, but we are a small congregation and cannot afford to keep up that service, which currently involves a six-seater cab making two runs each way on Saturday mornings. More important, there are many more people who want to be included in the pick-ups, but that would mean hiring a minivan, and that is way beyond our means at the moment. These people feel cut off from the world because they cannot drive—and especially cut off from their friends and their house of prayer and study. Sunset years should not be years of isolation and despair. Whatever your religion, please help us help them.
