Biruwa Ventures Cycles for a Cause
Every year, 25,000 infants die in Nepal due to lack of proper birthing facilities. Rukum, a rural district in Nepal, has only 14 birthing facilities for a mountainous terrain of around 3,000 square kilometers.
The amount raised by the event will be channeled to District Health Office of Rukum through the Save the Children Everyone Campaign's partner organization, Rukumeli Samaj Development Center to buy equipments such as birthing beds, torch lights, stainless steel scissors, just to name a few.
The funds will go through a zero leakage mechanism through Karma Foundation in Kathmandu, ensuring that there is no retention of funds.
A team from Biruwa Ventures is participating in this year's Kora Challenge to raise $500 towards this cause.
About Kora
In
Buddhism and Hinduism a "˜Kora' is a circumbulation, done clockwise,
usually around a religious structure. It is said that a single Kora
around Mt. Kailash in Tibet for example is enough for one lifetime.
Kathmandu, with its myriad religious structures is a perfect location
to do a circumbulation. It boasts two of the most revered Buddhist
Stupas of Boudhha & Swoyambhu, and one of the top eight temples for
Hindus worldwide, Pashupatinath.
This Challenge circumbulates
the valley, clockwise, right at the edge of the valley, away from the
hustle of the city, through small dirt trails passing by picturesque
rural settings, raising money per kilometre biked for a worthy cause.
