My name is Jake Bunker, and I have been selected to be a competition representative at the World Sport Jujitsu Championships in Geneva, Switzerland in September of 2015. This is a huge honor for me to represent my country in a martial art that I love. Only two candidates are selected per weight class to represent the US, and I thank you for the opportunity you will be giving me to compete.
About Me
I have been competing in various grappling contests since I was 12. I have a background in scholastic-style wrestling, Judo, and Brazillian- and Japanese-style Jujitsu. I have been training at Cole's Martials Arts; Mizu-Ryu Style Jujitsu for 8 years. I obtained my 1st dan black belt 4 years ago, and currently hold a 3rd dan black belt (recognized by the United States Jujitsu Federation).
I have competed in a variety of tournaments across the country, including the 2014 AAU US National Judo Tournament (winning 1st place in my weight class), the 2011 Brazillian Jujitsu World Tournament, and the MN State Sport Jujitsu Tournament (winning 1st in weight and open divisions in 2008-2010)
I have been competing while I have been in school. In May of 2014 I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota. I am working on re-entering school to obtain my teaching license.
A breakdown of my bugdet plans:
$ 430 to fly round-trip to New Orleans for official try-outs
$400 for 4 night stay in New Orleans
$200-300 for 2x 3-4 day training camps for US Team competitors in Orrsville Ohio
$720 in driving expenses to training camps in Ohio
$250 for application fees with the U.S. WJJ team
$500 to register personal coaches with WJJCO
$1000 for Swiss Hotel Accommodation
$ 500 for expenses while in Geneva
$3600 for flying round-trip to Switzerland (including coach's expenses)
$600 for Dojo fees
$250 for equipment fees
Remainder to be used as an emergency and food fund, as well as compensate for gofundme's gratuities.
