Hi. I'm Mel. Some of you know me. Some of you only know my parents. Some of you may not know me at all.
Darrin and I got married in 2004 in my parents' dining room in River Falls, Wisconsin. I immediately moved to Adelaide, South Australia, where Darrin is from. We have not been back to the US since this time.
I always intended to have a savings fund set up so that we could go and visit my family, but it never really happened, what with having to pay for my immigration fees, then a house, then kids and job changes and car loans and huge electricity bills.
So I'll get right to the point, because I'm good at that. My dad's not well. I don't know how long he'll be with us. We'd like to get the four of us - me, Darrin, Caleb (almost 8) and Chuckie (3) back to Wisconsin to visit while we can. So many people have offered to help that I decided to set this up, so that we could have everything in one spot.
I'm sure you want to know where all this money will be going, so I've made a wish list with all of the expenses we need to cover.
We can't travel until we have ALL passports - Australian and US. The kids' US emergency passports are dependent upon proof of intent to travel in the next 14 days from the application date. Our appointments are booked in Melbourne for the 26th of February (earliest we could get). So really, the sooner the better for all of this.
Any donations over $11,000 will go toward extras like new luggage, renting a car in the US, putting in the bank to cover bills while we're away, etc.
Every little bit helps, and we sincerely thank you in advance for any donation you can afford.
