Tuition fund: SIL-UND Institute

This June I am graduating from University of California, Los Angeles with a B.A. in Linguistics.  I have a 3.5 GPA, and am involved in running two clubs on top of my regular coursework, an internship with the State Department, and various RA opportunities; in short, I'm snatching up every linguistics-related research and learning opportunity that I can. Since I'm graduating this June and want more knowledge than my department's program can offer me, I applied for a fellowship to the Linguistics Society of America's very prestigious Summer Institute. However, due to the highly competitive nature of the fellowship program and the fact that I'm completing my undergrad education at one of the most prestigious (and well-supported) linguistics departments in the world, I was not awarded the financial aid...and thus cannot afford the $6,000+ in airfare, tuition, and housing expenses to attend.

Thankfully, I applied to a second linguistics summer program hosted at the University of North Dakota by the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL). I was happily accepted to the program, which focuses on linguistic fieldwork with indigenous and endangered languages as part of its curriculum--and is an AMAZING opportunity in terms of knowledge, and helping to increase the appeal of my grad school applications. However, I found out that I cannot use my FAFSA to pay for my tuition since I'll have earned by B.A. by the program's end. Also, because UCLA is on the 10-week quarter system and the program begins June 8th, a full week before my graduation ceremony, I will have to take my Spring finals early, fly to UND for the week of June 8th and then fly back to Los Angeles for graduation weekend to see my family (who have already booked their flights and hotel rooms for the occasion <3). This adds about $1,000 to the $3,500 tuition and, combined with bills and rent I'd still have to pay for June and July in L.A., comes out to be a cost I simply cannot handle alone. In that regard, I am asking those my loved ones who a.) can afford it, and b.) intended to send me congratulations gifts for graduation to please help me reach my educational goals and dreams by helping me pay for this amazing opportunity.

Please donate to my fund if you possibly can and, if you cannot, please leave words of encouragement and share the link to my fundraising page. Any amount is appreciated and every penny counts. I never dreamt that I'd actively desire to spend a summer in Grand Forks, North Dakota, but this is a dream I can't achieve without help and I'm grateful for all the support and help I can get--so thank you for taking the time to read my story and donate to my fund.
