Hello everyone! My name is Kathryn McCauley (Kat). I am 20 years old and currently attend Eugene Lang College at The New School in New York City. I am able to attend The New School through an opportunity program called HEOP (Higher Educational Opportunity Program), a program that provides low-income students with the academic and financial assistance to succeed in college where they may not have initially.
Attending college was a huge first step into making a better life for myself than the one I had come from.
I feel it is important to take my goals a step further.
My goal is to study abroad in the fall of 2015 and I need your help!
Right now it is unclear where I will be studying. I hope to study in a place where I can continue taking psychology classes while also enhancing my need to learn about how to make a difference in my everyday life.
Initially, I had several reasons preventing me to study abroad. I felt that I didn’t have the financial means to participate. While my financial fears still stand, I am also aware that giving up before I try is not an option. I feel studying abroad would be an amazing way to challenge myself. If I can make this work, I plan on using what I learn to further shape my identity and aid the communities I care about.
I will continue to post updates on where I will be studying. I will also be applying to scholarships as the time to study abroad gets closer.
