Kirk Schmidt Medical Fund

On March 30, 2015 Kirk Schmidt was brought to CHI Saint Francis for a serious infection in his leg called cellulits and trouble breathing. He was admitted to the ICU wing and within a matter of a couple hours was placed on a respirator. Kirk has been in ICU now for over 2 weeks and has had several set  backs with his health.  The Schmidt Family has Blue Cross and Blue Shield as their insurance carrier and CHI Catholic Hospitals consider Blue Cross insurance as out of network. His wife Kathy has had to miss vast amounts of work to stay by her husbands side during this time of need as well as their son Taran and a daughter Amber who lives in Superior, Nebraska.
Kirk is a long time resident of Grand Island, Nebraksa who served in the United States Marine Corps and most recently has been employed by Airgroup as a contract driver.  Although the Schmidts have insurance, he has no extra benefits though his position. His wife Kathy manages the Inredible Bulk candy store in the Conestoga Mall.
With the serious condition of Kirk's health it is unsure how soon he will be returning to work and will need extra provisions and possible oxygen at home until his health is back to where it should be. Many people have ask how they may help, donating any amount of a monetary gift would be greatly appreciated no matter how big or small. This family would be so ever grateful for your kindness. They were not prepared for something this serious to happen.
There will also be another opportunity to show your support for the Schmidt Family with a benefit fundraiser on May 16, 2015 from 6pm to 10pm at Wave Pizza 107 North Walnut Street, Grand Island, NE 68801. Many area businesses have donated  prizes to help raise funds for the family. Thank you for your prayers, acts of kindness and support during this trying time.
