Kira's Mission to Haiti

Two years have passed since a 7.0 earthquake engulfed Haiti and destroyed the majority of Port-au-Prince and still recovery is needed, necessary for this nation to survive and one day possibly thrive more than it ever has before. Half a million people are still living in makeshift shelters and tents, homeless and displaced with sickness and disease running rampant. A nation that once reached a population of just over 10 million is 9,917,932 as of July 2011.

So, why Haiti? A lot of people have been asking me that question. And the main answer I come up with is, "Why not?". After the earthquake showed its face, claiming more than 300,000 lives and making the destruction that it did, I remember feeling so sad and so helpless. Like so many others, I wanted to go to this third world country and help the people recover. After giving a number of donations, my heart still wasn't at rest so I promised myself that one day in the next five years, I would go to Haiti and volunteer to help in any way that I can. Now that time has come.

Instead of going away for my 26th birthday on a vacation with my best girlfriends, I'd take a different kind of trip, one that I have always wanted to take: a mission trip to Haiti. I want to be a blessing to these heartbroken people, brighten their day, and spread the light, the hope that we are so familiar with here in America. But I cannot do it alone. I definitely need your help for safe travels down the Atlantic Ocean and into the Caribbean as well as safe travels back home. In order to take part in this trip, I need to raise $1,400 for my travels. So please, any amount that you can give is very much needed, no gift is too small.
