Kika is my best friend.

The day Kika came home to my family, she was not even supposed to stay. Her "owner" brought her over just so she was not alone. She came to our house scrawny and full of fleas. As soon as she came through the door, we knew she was our baby and we had to take care of her.

Today, Kika is 9-years-old and literally the best dog in the world.

She is not just a dog or best friend to me. She is more than that. When my mother passed away 3 years ago, I almost became homeless in order to keep her. Kika is the last part of my mom I am not ready to lose. 

But that became a very real possibility when she was hit and critically injured by a car on Thursday, October 23rd.

As much as I love my dog, she loves me even more. Every time I walk in the door, whether it be 10 minutes or 10 hours I've been gone, she is so incredibly happy I came home to her. The past few days my heart breaks walking into my house without her there.

Kika is finally out of the ICU and she's smiling like I always expected, but she is not 100% healed.

On Monday, October 27th, after the bruises on her lungs have had a little time to heal, she will undergo surgery to fix her shoulder, which is broken in three places.

This surgery is going to cost about $4,000, not including the 5-day hospital stay and other vet fees.

I am 24-years-old with limited income. For my beautiful girl's recovery, I have maxed out credit cards and took out loan amounts that I cannot afford.
