Get Off the Rock! #Football Island

Donation protected
I normally wouldn't do this but as a product of the Rock American Samoa I personally understand the hardships and struggle every teenager is going through.  One of my biggest goals is to help student athletes from American Samoa earn a athlete scholarship through football and pusue their education.

In his 60 Minutes report, [NOTE: link to the youtube page on the words "60 minutes report"] Scott Pelley called it "Football Island" - American Samoa, a rock in the distant South Pacific and the only US territory south of the equator.

Although limited in resources, we find a way to make do with what our island has to offer. Football is one of the few options that we use as a vehicle for student-atheltes to leave "Da Rock."

Isolated in the South Pacific, it is difficult for college coaches to measure the talents of our island's student athletes. Our goal is to provide an opportunity for these athletes to travel to the US mainland so that they can compete against some of the best athletes in the country.

For the first time in our territory's history, student-athletes have been invited to attend the Nike Regional Camp in Oregon this June. We also plan to visit several universities in the area, including Portland State University, Wester Oregon University, Oregon State
University, and the University of Oregon.

We also plan to have these student-athletes compete in Hawai'i's Exposure combine and camp in June, as well as visit the University of Hawai'i.

The biggest obstacle that these student-athletes have is simply paying for their airfare to leave American Samoa. Hawaiian Airlines is the only company to fly from the US to our territory and ticket prices are high: approximately $1000 round trip just to fly to Hawai'i.

We are trying to help 5 student-athletes from American Samoa make it to the mainland US this summer. With an average annual salary of $6311 [NOTE: link to http://www.spc.int/prism/americansamoa/ on the salary amount], it is incredibly difficult for a family to afford this kind of trip for their child. This is where you can help.

We are asking for donations, no matter the size, to help these student-athletes pay for their trips to the US.

Tentative cost: $2200.00
Airfare: $700.00
Hotels: $200.00
Ground Transportation:  $300.00
Meals: $300.00
Camp Fees:  $500.00
Misc.  $200.00

Thank you and God bless,
