Meet Sasha!

On January 17th at around 5pm we were headed to go shopping at a mall we don't ordinarily go to. We headed to the main highway and went north from our little town in Fayetteville Arkansas.  After a few miles of heavy 70-80 mile an hour traffic, we (much to our dismay) noticed a terrified dog next to the road. We started to slow down to try and help but within seconds it was too late, she had been struck by a fast car and they didn't even look back!

We ran to help it and it of course was wounded and trying to run, but with a severely broken leg, she didn't get far.

By the time we got to the poor girl she was obviously in pain, but even in the terror she came to us and laid her head on our feet as if she was asking for help.  We started making calls to friends who are more oriented in animal rescue. Between all of us, we called every rescue, shelter and government agency we could to come help!
In return to our calls for help we either got an answering machine or the generic answer of  "we can't help, it's after 5pm, call back on Monday".

We all decided she couldn't wait and made a pact to get her help no matter what. Luckily the only emergency clinic in our area was nearby.  4 hours, lots of fear and $507 later, we got a bad diagnoses. Her back right leg had been broken in one place and then shattered in another. It was not looking good.  They gave her pain meds and sent her home with us, strangers.

I was so in love with this girl from the get go, she has the most calm demeanor I've ever experienced from a dog,  She was loving even when she didn't know us and was in obvious pain. She didn't show agression or anger at all. The vet even commented that she was the most calm dog she had ever dealt with during the examination.

We took her to our regular vet (who is my hero) today.
She is about 7 years old and had been kept on a chain outside most of her life, she has the beginnings of arthritis in her spine but still manages to be the sweetest dog.

She will require a major surgery and braces to be put in for her to walk again. The surgery must be performed by a special orthopedic surgeon that is an hour away from where we live.  We have an appointment with the surgeon tomorrow at noon to get a real scope on everything. I asked about how much financially we would be looking at so we would know how to plan.
$3,000 is the estimate for the surgery, and that amount may go up depending on how it all goes.

I work a regular retail job, and we do have some savings to use, but we are from from our final goal to make this baby walk again. We have all put out the call to family and friends for help, and I'm in hopes that between us and you, we can give this girl a new lease on life!

UPDATE!
Sasha just got out of surgery. The doctor is very hopeful that it will go well and she will recover fully, but the breaks were more severe than he previously thought.

We have had a lot of people ask about direct donations to the clinic.
We would love that! Please call the clinic directly and give my name : Brooke Shock
and the dogs name: Sasha.

Here is the number to the clinic: South County Animal Hospital [phone redacted]

please call soon as the bill is due when we pick her up tomorrow from surgery!

Thank you all for your caring hearts and amazing generosity!
