Garden of Hope Orphanage solar proj

Garden of Hope orphanage is located in Montrouis, Haiti.  Junior Belcinze runs the orphanage with nearly 30 kids.  The children range in age from 3 to 17.  
I was struck on my recent visit that the children have no electricity, and once the sun sets, the kids are in the dark.  They have a generator, but gas is over $5 a gallon in Haiti, which is equivelent to a laborers daily wage, so the generator is only run on special occassions.
I calculated the costs of the solar panels (8), the batteries (8), the inverter and the voltage controller. Add in wiring and the cost of installation, and we can get these kids electricity for just under $6k
