Kelly Goes to Uganda: Take Two

May 14, 2013 I boarded a plane to Kampala, Uganda to study the culture and work in an baby's home, and since then my life has never been the same.
My name is Kelly Trawcynski, I'm an ordinary 22 year old grad student living in Kalamazoo with a
big dream God has put on my heart: to bring hope and healing to the children in Uganda who suffer from the effects of childhood trauma.
In 2013, I went to Uganda on a fluke trip, and fell head over heels for the 2.7 million orphans and the children who are part of the 38% of the population that live on less than $1.25 a day.
As I spent a month working in Watoto's Bulrushes Baby Home, I saw the emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioral effects of the trauma that many of them had endured. I fell in love with some of the babies in the home, but I was left with the bitter realization that I didn't have the skills to truly help them.
Soon, I felt the Lord laying graduate school upon my heart, and now I am pursuing a master's in social work, with a specialization in trauma across the lifespan, which will give me the skills necesary to go back to Uganda one day and provide therapy and help to improverished children and orphans around Uganda.
Although I am still working towards my degree, I am in the process of networking and building relationships with organizations and children in Uganda who might be able to use my skills in the future.
Therefore, I am going on a missions trip with my church The River from January 4 to 16, 2015. Unlike many missions trips, we are not just going to build things and leave. The river has a long term relationship with the village of Oditel in Uganda which has been kept through child sponsorship and annual missions trips to the village! The purpose of the missions trip is to continue to build relaitonships, aide in orphan care, and discuss future agriculture and business ventures.
In the last two years, the River has helped in construction of the orphan carepoint in Oditel, installed a pump well and eco-latrine, and help start up a micro-finance program and business training for the people there. They also have sponsored over 200 oprhans in Oditel! I am so excited to be a part of their positive impact on the village of Oditel!
All donations will go towards: travel, expenses while there, and immunizations. Any donations, even a dollar, makes a difference! But above money, I need your prayers. I know that the Lord has brought me to this trip for a reason, and prayers for courage, clarity, and a positive impact on the village of Oditel is greatly needed!
I cannot express what prayers and donations mean to me. This is step one towards healing the vulnerable children of Uganda, and I am so excited to see what the Lord will teach me about my future in Uganda through this short-term missions trip!
