After four miscarriages over six years' time, I was told I would be lucky to ever conceive again without medical intervention. Four years later I was stunned to find out I was pregnant again, and had no hope of my pregnancy holding out. He showed up early, but I was blessed beyond belief with a beautiful baby boy on February 10, 2012.
My son has been my everything from the moment I found out he was in my tummy. He is the best part of me and I want nothing but the best for him!!
Despite my attempts to involve him from the time I was 6 weeks along in my pregnancy, his father failed to meet Maverick until he was 15 months old, saw him 6 times over the next year, and then made an attempt to integrate himself into our lives with very poor success. In the short time he has been any part of our son's life, his priority has been to get out of paying child support. His latest tactic has been to sue me for full custody with hopes of getting child support paid to him from me.
I am a full time nursing student and I do my best with what little money I have. But I can not afford an attorney. I have tried Iowa Legal Aid, they won't take my case because there is no physical abuse involved. Drake's Legal Clinic only takes 2 cases per semester and they won't be picking another one until January 7th. The Polk County Bar Association only takes non-contested cases. I have been laughed at with every pro bono inquiry I've made. The only attorney willing to even talk to me at all wants a $5,000.00 retainer fee, hence the amount I'm trying to raise.
I had filed a motion to dismiss this nonsense and it was overruled yesterday, at which point our judge gave me the impression that I am very vulnerable to losing my son being that I have no legal representation.
I loved my son before I knew him. He is my everything. And right now I'm so scared that I'm going to lose him if I can't retain an attorney.
Please... $1, $5.. ANYTHING you could offer would be more appreciated than I can even say. My heart aches daily with the thought that I'm going to get rail roaded by this guy and his attorney.
