Kendale's Journey

Donation protected
Kendale Dosselman knows all too well how your life can change in an instant. On January 18, 2015 Kendale was electrocuted while helping a friend to build an elk fence near Archerwill, SK, when the fence pounder came in contact with an overhead power line. He was rushed to St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon where surgeons spent 5 hours working on his hands, opening them up to try and get some circulation. The following morning he received the news that no one ever wants to hear - they would have to amputate both of his hands. Surgery was planned for 2 days later, however Kendale took a quick unexpected turn for the worse with his lungs and he went into acute respiratory distress. Surgery had to be postponed. He was unable to breath on his own and was quickly put on a respirator and put into an induced coma. For the next five days he fought bravely for his life, and one week after his accident, surgeons amputated both of his hands about 3 inches below the elbow.  Over the next several days, Kendale underwent 3 more surgeries to control infections in his arms and to remove dead tissue. On February 6, Kendale was discharged from hospital to a life that would be changed forever.

It is truly a miracle that Kendale is here with us today. He and his wife Jody, and daughters MazaRae and Syanna (aged 8 and 6) believe that it is because of the love, support and prayers from family and friends that have gotten them to where they are today. They are no doubt frightened about what the future holds for them, but with the hope of prosthetics in the future, they remain positive that they can overcome the challenges of living with no hands. It is our hope now that we can continue to help Kendale and Jody by raising funds to help support their financial needs so that they can focus on their journey ahead.
