Our Friend Kathleen Balch Needs Us

On December 31, 2014, Kathleen Koper Balch was diagnosed with Stage 2B Breast Cancer (Invasive Lobular Carcinoma). Immediately, the grueling, invasive testing began to determine the best course of treatment for her cancer.
Kathleen, age 51 is married to photographer Don Balch and they have two children, Nicolette, 21 and Nathaniel, 18. Understandably, the whole family was shocked and deeply distressed over the sudden initial diagnosis.
Her doctors recommended a mastectomy followed by six rounds of chemotherapy. Before she had a chance to grasp the severity of her situation, a mastectomy was performed this past January 16th. Post surgery, the pathology revealed that she had an 11 centimeter (large) aggressive tumor which will require an additional 36 radiation sessions after she finishes her chemotherapy. This whole process could take close to a year to complete.
Her husband Don is working hard to support Kathleen both emotionally and physically. Her daily needs take Don away from his job as a freelance photograher. Unfortunately, this will put a significant strain on the finances of the Balch family. Kathleen will be limited if not completely unable to work during this fight for her life.
Fighting cancer requires tremendous energy, a positive spirit, rest and a willingness to respect the process and to be patient.
We have set up a fund to help the family with medical bills and to cover household expenses while they focus their energy on helping her to heal. Kathleen has many people around her who love and care for her so let's all band together to help her fight this battle! Any donation, big or small, will be greatly appreciated!
