Meet Bob, Kilo and Brax—three amazing animals that do so much for you in Glynn County. Unfortunately, due to the city’s severe financial crisis, the Brunswick Police Department had been without a k-9 Unit, for over two years. Both of the dogs, Brett and Max had died; Brett was killed in the line of duty two years ago and Max died of kidney failure in 2013, though he had been retired for over two years.
In early 2013, Officer Babbin began an arduous campaign to raise funds to reinstate the K-9 unit for the Department and thanks to the generosity of our neighbors, the Brunswick Police Department was able to raise enough funds to purchase two dogs. In addition to these two new k-9 officers, the Department applied for a grant and received funds to purchase a third dog.
With the arrival of new police dogs the Brunswick Police Department are reaching out, once again, to organizations and businesses in an effort to help them raise funds to purchase all of the necessary equipment their four legged officers will need. Their goal is to raise $750 dollars to help purchase equipment, pay for trainings, veterinarian expenses, foods, yearly certifications, etc.
The Brunswick Police Department is eager to welcome Bob, Kilo and Brax into our community. The new officers will be a great asset to the Department. The k-9 officers are trained in narcotics, tracking and apprehension, and they are specially trained in de-escalating violent situations.
The impact these K-9 officers have is huge:
- Calm large crowds
- De-escalate violent situations
- Track missing persons (children, seniors, etc.)
- Identify narcotics and facilitate the arrest of drug dealers in the community
- Track and apprehend criminals
- They also attend community meetings and are a great resource for the Department in connecting with our younger generations
For an organization that does so much for our community, Dunagan Insurance Group wants to give back. Join us in providing for these amazing dogs and partners to our amazing officers.
