Excited! After several years of travel, study and explorations in diverse music and dance genres/cultures …after experiencing “music” and dance from all the continents! After engagements and interactions with many renowned teachers, groups, artists and scholars….
We are Honored!! & Privileged!!! to be invited by the National Theatre of Ghana to present our works, performed by the National Symphony Orchestra and National Dance Company from June 18-20, 2015.
The National Theatre of Ghana will present a special concert of 5 World Premiers (Contemporary Ghanaian Orchestral Music and Dance) composed and choreographed by Paschal Yao Younge and Zelma Badu-Younge. This will be the first of this type of project by the Theater (and in Ghana) and especially by both companies. Several artists from the United States, Canada, and Taiwan/China will be involved.
In addition, we will organize/host/direct two symposia on the “Representation, Performance and Teaching of Ghanaian Traditional and Contemporary Musical Arts -- Drumming and Dance -- for local Amateur Groups, Teachers and Educators.
We hope to make this an annual program to enhance Arts Education - Music, Dance, Theater &Visual Artists - in Ghana.
WHO ARE WE?
Azaguno is vibrant multi-ethnic international touring group, which focuses on research, preservation, education and performance of traditional African, African American, Caribbean and Latin America music and dance. The ensemble also creates contemporary intercultural works in new theatrical contexts that fuse the artistic and aesthetic cultural values and resources representative of African experiences. Through the drum, the voice, the dance and other visual art forms, Azaguno brings to the stage a unique African theatrical experience. The group is directed by Paschal Yao Younge as Executive /Music Director) and Zelma Badu-Younge, (Dance Director and Choreographer) The group appeared at several national and international festivals and conferences in Canada, Mainland China, Ghana, France, Italy, Mexico, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and United States, etc. Some of the festivals include Seoul International Drum Festival, Taiwan International Percussion Festival, Sacheon International Percussion Festival, Taiwan International Dance Festival, Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, Hsin Chu Folk Drum International Festival and the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. The group also represented the US at the FIFA World Cup Opening Ceremony and Games in Seoul, Korea in 2002. www.Azaguno.com
