My Name is Ashley McRoy, I am 29 years old. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer when I was 22 and underwent a colon resection and chemo therapy. Just shy of 5 years of being cancer free, I was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
As bad as the first bout with cancer was, the second time around really took a toll on my life, as well as my family's and friends.
My second major surgery was the Whipple procedure. During over 7 hours the surgeon removed part of my stomach, pancreas, bile duct, gal-bladder, part of my colon (again) and part of my right kidney.
My treatment plan was aggressive and started shortly after surgery. Treatment included a full month of intense radiation and several months of chemo therapy. My recovery took over a year and I continue to struggle with pain and endurance.
Hospital and doctor office visits are frequent. I have PET/CT scan's every three months, and sometimes ER visits due to some unknown unbearable pain/feeling. Don't let me forget the oh-so-fun colonoscopy and upper-endoscopy’s!
I am so thankful for our Lord and savior that I am alive today. My concerns I have and will always have are the medical bills that will never end and the insurance changes and premium increases. I actually get scared and will have a panic attack every-time I get something in the mail from either my insurance company or a doctor's office. I never know when a claim might be denied or how much the next bill will add to my medical debt.
I was SO blessed to have met my prince charming, and even more blessed I got to marry him April, 5th 2014 :-) He has been with me every step of the way, and continues to be.
I feel so guilty with the amount of medical debt that he has incurred with me.
I help in every way that I possible can. I absolutely LOVE to cook and apparently have a knack for it :-) .
Because of my daily struggle I am unable to work and I REALLY want to be! I used to model for a living and I would love to build a network back up and continue. We have been tying so hard to get back on our feet but it feels like we are running in place. We rarely are able to do anything or get anything for ourselves other than groceries because of the “no spending budget” we are on.
It would GREATLY help us if anyone could find it in their heart to take the time and donate any amount. Any donation would greatly help us get our heads above water. We thank you for ANY little bit you can help!
