Save Derek! Moonshiners Unite!

This is my friend Derek. Hardworking father of three little girls: just a nice guy trying to do the best for his kids. He was arrested last Saturday morning for being a moonshiner. Because  wearing dress slacks and shoes at 7am definitely says moonshine, right?

In case you don't know, you can make beer, wine, mead and hard cider at home - basically everything but liquor. Why? Because it's all about taxes and the government wants a lot of them. You can't even make it for your own consumption, like you can with the other adult beverages.

One call to the local sheriff by a vindictive (not) soon (enough)-ex-wife later, Derek spent the day in the San Diego County jail. If convicted, he's likely looking at fines of $10k for each charge (we're not even sure how many charges yet, which is just utterly ridiculous), plus legal fees. Seems a little extreme, don't you think? If you can help support Derek, we'd appreciate it! Anything we raise beyond what we need to cover Derek's legal fees/fines will go to helping get these archaic laws updated, through donations to groups like the Hobby Distiller's Association.
