Batter Up!

Hello everyone! My name is Shemea Washington; I'm a single mother of two boys, ages 2 and 5. I am a 2010 graduate of Clark Atlanta University, where I studied Psychology. This fundraiser is to help me start my own bakery. Currently, I operate an in-home bakery, and I want to expand to a store front; however, I don't have the funds to do so. I have been baking since April 2011, and it has really become a passion of mine. It all started when a mother in need of a cake, for her 2 year old, decided to BATTER UP and bake! Given the name of my bakery, that's exactly what I began to do. The cake turned out so well that I decided to turn it into a business. I specialize in custom desserts, such as, cupcakes, cakes, pies, cobblers, and cookies. Eventually, I want a percentage of proceeds from my bakery to go to a charity for those with hearing loss, or even start my own soon. My oldest son, now 5, was diagnosed with mild hearing loss at the age of 3. Because of this, there was a delay in his speech and he has hearing aids. His story is merely motivation to me. Therefore, I want to be able to give back to the families that may not be able to afford proper treatment, as far as hearing aids, audiologists, speech pathologists, etc. Any amount will do.
