Greetings and Happy New Year!
I was recently let go from my job as a reporter at the Sooke News Mirror. The timing is unexpected as my partner and I are anticipating a baby any day now. With a 3 year old daughter, a dog and a cat, and a full-term partner, I first found myself afloat in a sea of uncertainty.
Rather than despairing, I am taking it upon myself to begin a truly alternative media source for my beloved town of Sooke B.C. which is not so much about reporting "the news".
I wish to create a co-authored storied and many voiced mythos of the land, sea and people that dwell in these parts.
The corporate and impersonal handling of my firing has inspired me to create a compassionate and earth loving source for local stories, interviews, photography, and live streamed online radio. I envision incorporating conscientious businesses as part of the support base for this media endeavour.
The time has come to represent Sooke and its environs with heart-based journalism that I will continue to serve my community with while providing for my family and soon-to-be-with-us Ocean/Naia <3
I will continue this campaign while reporting from the streets, forests and waterways of Supernatural Sooke and environs.
My beloved town deserves my best efforts to change the face of journalism from corporate and formulaic to compassionate and creative to the best of my abilities.
