Rainbow Rose: Ride to Save a Life

Two years ago, when the Metaphor first started throwing benefit concerts for local charities, it was in response to the Orlando Shootings in Pulse Nightclub. We gathered together to organize a night of music, poetry and spread a message of unity and solidarity. The proceeds went to a Toronto-based organization called RainbowRailroad.
" Rainbow Railroad is a registered charitable organization that provides support to LGBTQI individuals seeking a safe haven from state-sponsored or enabled violence. This includes airfare and financial support for travel related costs, including costs immediately before and after travel. Beyond direct financial assistance, Rainbow Railroad provides information and resources on how to make an asylum claim
directly in safer countries or through the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) resettlement process.
Since its founding in 2006, Rainbow Railroad has funded travel for over 300 individuals – with a record 200 people traveling to safety in 2017 alone. The majority of the cases funded have been from Jamaica, Nigeria and Uganda, but requests for help are increasingly coming from other regions of the world." - rainbowrailroad.com
There are over 70 countries in the world today where anti-homosexuality laws still exist and members of the Metaphor feel strongly about this. A war on love affects everyone. We feel that Rainbow Railroad is doing what is necessary and what is right, the way Canadians did during the time of slavery with the Underground Railroad.
In Chechnya there have been reports of an anti-homosexual "cleansing" in which people have been tortured, kidnapped and killed due to their sexual orientation in what eyewitnesses and activists hace des
cribed as "concentration camps".
Rainbow Railroad went into action as soon as those reports surfaced. They have been working with a non-governmental Russian LGBTQ organization that is working at the front lines and getting people to safety. As of December 2017, 57 people's lives have been saved in Chechnya thanks to these people.

Our goal here is to save a life. To raise enough money for one person to be able to get to safety. On September 2018 I will be embarking on a bike trip to NYC from Toronto in order to fundraise for this revolutionary cause. We need to raise a minimum of 5k in order to truly
make a difference.
For those who want to participate but don't want to travel all the way to the U.S, we will also be organizng a series of smaller 100 - 150km trips within Canada from now until then for training in which you yourself can participate. You can help spread the word and raise money as well using this link. For more information please do not hesitate get in touch.
