Rescue Horses

Tax deductible
Meadowgate was established in 2005 in the Finger Lakes region of New York State because of a lack of equine rescues in this area that are specifically set up for abuse and neglect cases.  Working with law enforcement and cruelty investigators at all levels, its doors are open for cases in the surrounding ten counties.  To date over 740 horses in this part of NYS have needed a safe and secure place to escape to for various reasons.  Meadowgate has taken in as many as its facility it could hold and manage.  Upon their arrival each horse receives a complete medical exam and nutritional plan and then rehabilitation begins.  As each horse is different, each has received individual plans and care based upon its needs.  The ultimate goal is to complete the horses rehab, training, and place in a new, safe and secure home.  This has not always been possible due to the degree of abuse the horse has suffered.  After several months of trying there have been times that the difficult decision to end the suffering has been made.
Each horse has its own amazing story and the progress they can make is very life changing.
We have several mentoring programs for youth and to  see the relationship that develops between and a hurting child and a hurting horse is indescribable.  We are also available for educational fieldtrips to several organizations and groups.  Our local SPCA takes advantage of this every summer with their summer camp program, as well as several 4-H, and other youth programs in our area.
Our funding is at an all time low and the daily operational costs have risen making it very difficult to accept any new horses to our facility that really need to be here for our care.  So we are reaching out for help to continue to feed the horses that we have and to continue our service to the suffering horses of NYS.  All of our mentoring programs will cease to exist if we do not have the horses.
Our hay is no longer donated to us and grain and supplement costs have slowly risen.  As spring approaches we have the expense of yearly vaccinations which is usually over $500 depending on the number of horses.  We also have the expense of regular routine farrier care.  Right now we need hay and grain to make it through the winter...which is thousands of dollars.  Please help us to continue to help them.

For more information about Meadowgate please see www.nyhorserescue.net.  Please view our news & tidbit section to read about just one of our success stories...Brandy...the first horse in NYS to enter the International Equine Agility Club.  From a wild and untouchable horse to a horse that now competes internationally!  A must read story!  Please help us continue to make "tears disappear".
