The Jessica (Gray) McLoughlin Fund

My name is Thomas McLoughlin. On January 27, 2015, my beloved wife Jessica (Gray) McLoughlin went into a completely unexpected and sudden cardiac arrest. I immediately called 911 and gave my wife CPR until paramedics arrived. After well over 10 minutes without oxygen, the paramedics were able to resuscitate her and she was rushed to the emergency room. She was then moved to the ICU where the hospital staff did everything they possibly could to help her and she was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital Neuroscience ICU for further treatment and evaluation. After exhausting every possible form of testing and treatment it was determined that Jessica's heart stopped beating for too long of a period of time. She suffered what is called an anoxic brain injury and she is unable to breathe without a machine. She is also suffering from consistent seizures that can only be controlled by being on Propofol (Anesthesia) 24 hours a day for the rest of her life. If kept alive by machines, she would have to live in a nursing home facility for the rest of her life; breathing through a tube in her throat and fed through a tube in her stomach. She will never be able to talk or think again, walk, open her eyes, or live any kind of meaningful life again. Essentially she would remain in a permanent coma with no chance of recovery. I am now faced with the most difficult decision of my life to honor my wife's wishes to not be artifically kept alive in a vegetative state for the rest of her life. I am also faced with being a single father to our three year old daughter Lily and our six year old son David. My wife Jessica is 31 years old and this was completely unexpected. Aside from the living nightmare I have gone through the past week, I am now realizing the financial situation I am going to have to deal with as well. According to preliminary calculations, even with health insurance I am going to be looking at $50,000.00 in medical bills and funeral / final expenses.
There is no possible way I am going to be able to come anywhere close to making a dent in these bills. I am turning to whoever out there has the heart to help a fellow human being in dire need of help.
