Full time photographer without gear

Donation protected
Hey there, everyone! Thanks for clicking on my campaign!

After high school I discovered my affinity for taking pictures and eventually signed up for a class to learn B&W development. From that experience I was hooked & decided that photography was the right step for me and wanted to move it from the hobby box to the professional box.

I took a leap of faith in 2006 and attended the renound Hallmark Institute of Photography in Turners Falls, MA. When I graduated from the program, I left with amazing memories, tons of knowledge, a lot of hopes, a couple old film cameras in hand, and a couple of nasty student loans. I adore working with film and still work with it from time to time for personal work and special requests. However, I believe I need to obtain a digital camera to be able to continue my business efficiently and effectively.

After graduating from Hallmark I was blessed by hiring on with the police department to work in their photo lab as a full time professional photographer. This involves printing scene photos & mugshots as well as going out and photographing the Chief of Police, the Mayor, and a lot of department related events (such as cadet graduations, community outreach, annual reports, public events, visiting dignitaries, etc). The job isn't exactly high on the pay grade but the experiences have far outweighed the income. The department supplied a Nikon D300 & D800 for me to work with and I have been able to borrow them from time to time for personal work as well (pending permit completion & approval).

My job with the department for the past 5+ years has been one heck of a wild ride but I feel so blessed to be able to say that I had the opportunity. However, I get that nervous feeling in the pit of my stomach that suggests that I need to take another leap of faith in order to progress and grow in my career. Once I move on from my job I will no longer have a DSLR in my posession.

So, here's where this campaign comes in. I'm not just taking pretty pictures for fun, I take pictures for a living to pay my bills and help feed my family. That being said, I really need to have my own camera. I have to start from scratch and start filling up my empty tool kit. That's a little overwhelming to do on my own, so I really hope that you decide to help out - regardless if your donation is $0.05 or $5,000!

Here are some basic things that are necessary to keep working:
Pro or Semi-pro DSLR
Hotshoe flash
Some lenses (the couple of basic lenses that I do have are Minolta mount whom stopped producing camera equipment in 2005).

My goal here is not the finish line but it does get me pretty far into the race. If I should reach any donations beyond my goal not only would I be one very gracious & blessed photographer - but the money would go towards additional necessary things such as:
Camera bag
Reflector
Lighting
Batteries
Memory cards
Editing software
Computer for editing (my laptop is 7+ years old & dying)
Workshops & classes
PPA membership fees
, etc.

I take photographs to empower people. I take photographs to show people how beautiful they are when they can't see it on their own. I take photographs to highlight and promote whatever moment or milestone in their life that they're proud of. I document people in their struggles so they can show others their strengths. I take photographs of the smallest details in life that get overlooked and make people notice what they never noticed before. I also take photographs for myself, as therapy, to deal with my own inner struggles.

Without a camera I feel like I have no voice and no purpose. A big part of the reason I haven't taken my next leap of faith is because I do not own a professional digital camera and will not be able to continue my work without one. So again, I really hope that something in this campaign speaks to you and leads you to help with my purpose. No donation is too small to help! If you don't have any spare change in the pocket I totally understand! You can still help out by passing this along and sharing it with others!
