Help Give Cafe Lumiere A Hand!

Many Tahoe Park residents have enjoyed the delicious offerings of Café Lumiere since it first opened in 2009. Recently, the two young owners of the business, John and Chelsea, have experienced the unfortunate coincidence of unexpected health problems and equipment failure. The following notice was placed on the front door of the restaurant earlier this week, prompting many social media users to ponder how best to respond and help collectively:

As some of you have experienced firsthand this last couple of weeks have been spotty for Cafe Lumiere, things like store hours and pastry availability have not been consistent or reliable. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to our regulars and new customers and assure you we are taking these issues very seriously and working very hard to remedy them.

Some may know Chelsea is our primary baker here and she produces all of the great pastries we provide, she is also one of the owners of Cafe Lumiere. Aside from the incident of BOTH our ovens dying on us in the last couple weeks, Chelsea's health has been on a rapid decline over the last year or so. Some may recall a few random days we closed or didn't have pastries, this is primarily due to Chelsea's health being poor and leaving her incapacitated. It began as a random occurrence and has greatly escalated over the last month or so.

We feel very blessed to have been serving the Tahoe Park community as well as its surrounding areas and business for almost three years now, we thank you all for the support and patience and would like to assure everybody that regardless of what our business model looks like over the rest of the year, we will still be committed to serving quality Breakfast, Lunch, Coffees and quality pastries to our community.

Please bear with us during this difficult time and please keep Chelsea in your thoughts and prayers.

I reached out to the owners to see what realistic figure could be raised online and could make a difference during their ongoing struggles. They told me that the cost to get both ovens up and running again would be $3,700, but that anything would give them a big boost at this point while they try to get at least one oven running again.

I’d like to think that with our collective concern and charitable natures that we can pool together at least $500 to help get this important neighborhood asset through this momentary hardship, and anything else we could raise would be icing on the cake.

100% of the net proceeds of this effort will go to John and Chelsea at Café Lumiere.
