When I came to the country seven years ago I set myself out the goal to go to college and have an education so I could have a better life and help my mom. I worked hard, because I wanted to be the best at everything I did. And I was. I graduated from Film & Theatre Arts Charter High School in Los Angeles with a decent GPA of 3.2. It would have been better, of course, but it was good enough at the time.
During my junior year I was getting excited about college and applying to some colleges. During my senior year, I found out applications cost money for me because I am an undocumented student. That limited the amount of applications. When I realized I would not be able to afford college at all my dreams were crushed.
Today I attend community college, and it is not easy. I am 21 years old and in need of a job. I never wanted to work with a fake SSN because I thought it would affect me in the future. Now I have recently been given a job permit, but still don't have much financial aid . I have college fees to pay, books to buy, materials etc. as my Architecture major is an expensive one to pay, (all those art supplies add up!) I also have two younger siblings in school and my mom cannot do it all by herself. I've got to help out somehow.
