How do you envision your first Christmas as a newlywed? Do you visualize being homeless? It's not what anyone would hope or predict. Sadly, on Sunday December 21 just 4 days before Christmas, it became a reality for some of my closest friends.
I have known Billy and Celeste for several years. Celeste and I worked together when Billy became employed. It just so happens that at my Bachelorette party, marked the day that the two would become inseparable. They are incredible friends. Not many couples can exhibit the qualities that these two do. Their respect and appreciation for marriage and each other is admirable, not to mention they're a ball of fun! Every marriage has its ups and downs, but this has been a rough year for these two to say the least. Being married less than a year, they have overcame losing family, multiple car accidents, graduating college and advancing to a new job, and now a house fire.
It started off like any other Sunday. They had just moved into this new home they were going to rent to own. Boxes still filled some rooms and the air still had the "new smell" from the furniture that had recently been delivered. There was excitement amongst them to finally be settled and ready for the holidays. A little after noon Sunday, things would take a turn for the worst. Sitting on the sofa enjoying time together with Billy's son and watching tv, there was a loud siren that abruptly started ringing. Billy headed upstairs to investigate what was causing the fire alarm to spontaneously be set off. Once he topped the stairs, he knew this wasn't a false alarm. Rushing down stairs to get an extinguisher, he called 911. He ensured Celeste, his son, and their animals were out of the house. Without second guessing, he jolted back up the stairs to fight the fire until help arrived. Being treated in the ambulance for the burns he received while extinguishing the raging fire tearing through their home, they realized how blessed they were to all still have each other and in good health. The fire is still under investigation. Only the upstairs was scorched by the fire; however, with the accumulation of smoke, etc they are unable to stay at the house. Currently, they are staying in a hotel until they can remodel their home. Unfortunately, they had not established renters insurance yet. They need finances to cover their remodel as well replace the valuables they lost in the fire such as clothing, furniture, etc.
You would never know they have overcame all these obstacles. Their love and attitudes are unfaltering. They never complain or ask for help, that's why I want to take it upon myself to ensure these two receive what they deserve. The excitement of watching your child's face beam the moment they come downstairs Christmas morning, the distinct aroma of dinner sweeping though the house, anticipating what your first Christmas as a married couple is like, and the wholeness you feel when gathering around the tree and celebrating Christmas with your family. These are some of the few things you look forward to at Christmas. It saddens me to know they won't be able to enjoy these remarkable and memorable experiences. Please help them get back on their feet and bring in the new year on a positive note so that they may enjoy being newlyweds and starting life as a family in their new home!

Thank you,
Jenn
