50 Rides In 50 States

Donation protected
Thank you so much for viewing my site.

I completed my very first full Century Ride in 2009.   Now I may very well be crazy but last year I committed myself to riding an organized Century or Gran Fondo in each of the 50 states.  A Century is a non-competitive, organized ride of approximately 100 miles.  For the purposes of this goal, a Century and Gran Fondo can be considered the same.  If you are interested in the gritty details of each, please visit my blog at 50 Rides In 50 States.

I’m doing this because it is a challenging and, I believe, worthwhile personal goal.  I'm here because in having already done several, I've discovered it to be a dauntingly expensive goal to achieve and I'm humbly asking for help.

Your generous donations will be used to help offset the costs of travel, lodging and event entry fees. Having completed a few of these, events to which I've driven have averaged $600-$800 while events to which I've flown have run $1200-$1500. I expect Hawaii and Alaska to far exceed that.

Some other nuts and bolts of my quest:

-    Every ride I've done and every ride I've ever seen has had a charitable affiliation.  Some receive proceeds, some require minimum donations or fund raising.  Prostate Cancer, environmental conservation, Diabetes, Breast Cancer, and raising High School graduation rates, are just a few.  By helping me with this you are effectively supporting these charities as well.  When I'm done with all of this, any donations I have left over I will be donating to charity as well. Although your donations here are not tax deductible, it may enhance your giving spirit to know that some portion of your donation is going to some worthy cause.  Details about each ride that I enter will also appear on my 50 Rides In 50 States webpage.

-    It must be a full Century or Gran Fondo.  100 miles, or very close to it.

-    The event course must stay entirely within the borders of the state I’m counting.  In other words, the event route for Iowa (for example) must remain entirely in IA.

-    This is not a short term project.  I figure, with commitment, I can average 5 or 6 rides per year. With 5 states already completed I'm hoping to achieve 50 states within the 5-7 years.

Thank you again for your kind and generous donation in helping me achieve a dream.
