Dee's Dash

To pass by her some may see Davina Grant as an ordinary 37 year old.

However there is so much more to this wonderful woman than meets the eye.

A devoted wife, mother of five beautiful children and a new business owner of Rising Up Fitness, (a family friendly gym in Narre Warren) you would think Davina would have little time for anything else. But you would be wrong.

In a word we would describe Dee (as we so fondly know her) as generous.  Although her own life is so busy Dee has always sought out opportunities to help those in need and to serve others in any way she can. Through her example she has taught her family this same quality.

The Grant family is actively engaged in helping others and thinking outside of themselves. As new business owners they draw a very meager income for themselves but are happy to give what little they have to those less fortunate.

Dee is a woman of faith, gentleness and pure kindness. She is passionate about life and her energy and bubbly positive personality is infectious. Just try and be in her presence without smiling! Davina has always acknowledged her body as a gift and a temple and in in doing so has abstained from anything that may be harmful to it including alcohol, tobacco and caffeine. She has maintained an active and healthy lifestyle throughout her life, which makes her current situation an even more difficult.

Recently Davina has been diagnosed with Lyme’s Disease. Lyme Disease is called “The Great Imitator” because it can imitate many other diseases such as MS, Parkinson’s Disease, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Alzheimer’s to name a few.                    Lyme Disease can affect any organ in the body including muscles and joints, the heart and the neurological system including the brain.

Unfortunately for Davina the disease has been in her body undiagnosed for many years and as such is quite advanced. She suffers constant hand and arm tremors, slow and slurred speech and at times seizures and must have someone to care for her at all times. A bitter pill to swallow for someone so vibrant and yet she does this with grace and dignity.

Currently Australia does not recognize Lyme’s disease as a condition in this country so its treatment and medication are limited and costly as they are not included under the current PBS. This means that her family must currently pay over $1,300 every three weeks to just keep the disease under control but with a limited quality of life.

A treatment centre in Germany is her family’s wish at saving their wife and mother, as they know her. This centre offers treatment that has a good success rate of curing the disease over a two-week program. However this treatment comes at a high price - $25,000 for the treatment alone.

We are motivated to help Davina and her family and have created this fundraising page to raise the money needed for her current antibiotics regime, and for the trip to Germany. If you are able to, we would love you to donate. It could be $10 or $100 - whatever you feel you are able to share. Every dollar will help enormously. This website is secure and donations are made via a bank transfer. The funds raised will go into the Davina Grant Fund and will be used to pay for her medical expenses.
