South Africa
Donation protected
This March, a group of 24 driven UMass students will travel to South Africa with the Isenberg International Internship in Service Leadership program. We will return to the Ekhurukeni Center for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, where we hope to make a meaningful contribution. Last year, we delivered $2,000 worth of nonperishable food items, toys and recreational items for the kids to enjoy their outdoor time. This year, we will spend two days planting a huge sustainable garden and want to donate a large netted cover to protect the crops.
This orphanage cares for two hundred and sixty children but only receives funding to feed fifty of them. The sustainable garden will provide a constant food source for the children. In addition, surplus food will be sold to the community and serve as an income source for the orphanage.
Our Isenberg student group opened this GoFundMe account to raise funds for this cause. We are gratefully accepting donations. Every penny that is donated will go directly to supporting the netted cover, which costs $2,500.
During our time in South Africa, we will also teach computer literacy and establish four new computer labs at underserved high schools located in the Timbavati Reserve. We are gratefully accepting used laptops and will clear them prior to departure.
Thank you so much for supporting our work in South Africa!
