Indias fight to survive

Donation protected
Throughout our lives,we encounter many victories and struggles. For some, victories come at a heavy cost.
I'd like to take a few momemts to introduce you to a loving free spirit by the name of India.
India is a very strong 13 year old girl with a mind full of goals and achievements. Unfortunately,India has come upon a very large road block along her path.
It all started late in 2016, when she started experiencing asthsma-like symtoms. She started to have trouble breathing and even swallowing. India and her mother went to countless physicians trying to attain an explanation. Her physicians called other doctors from all over the world and finally, the heartbreaking cause was discovered. India was diagnosed with Epiglottits.
Epiglottitis is an inflamation of  the Epiglottis which would explain her troublesome breathing. Roughly 2,500 people are reported to have Epiglottitis every year.
Having found the cause, our hopes were high that India would make a fast recovery, Unfortunately, that was not the case. Soon India was transferred from a local hospital to a specialist in Melboune. After a few biopsies, the specialsts decided it was best to start antibiotics and steroids immediately. These medications were supposed to help her recover and regain strength, however they caused greater complications.
After a few weeks  a small rash has developed on India's back. Within 24 hours this rash and spread to her upper torso, the rash began to blister. After painful skin biopsies, it was discovered that India had developed a rare condition called STEVEN JOHNSON SYNDROME, caused by a severe reaction to the medications she was being treated with.
India was rushed to the CRITICAL CARE UNIT.

STEVEN JOHNSON SYNDROME (SJS) is a rare and sometimes fatal disease in which cell death causes the epidermus to seperate from the dermis. The sydrome is thought to be a hypersensivity complex that affects the mucous membrane. This causes the skin to peel away similar to a thermal burn.

After a week of painful dressing changes and constant pain it was decided by her Doctors that India should be intubated as the painful blisters were spreading to her mouth and already swollen throat. Tests carried out before the surgery reveled there was even worse to come. India's SJS had turned into TOXIC EPIDERMAL NECROLYSIS (TEN).

TOXIC EPIDERMAL NECROLYSIS is a condition where the skin peels away in sheets. TEN covers more than 30%of the victims body. Blisters also affect sight. TEN affects 1 in 1,000,000 people.

INDIA has a 70% coverage to her body, before she was intubated she had been without her sight for nearly one week.
Affected people are usually hospialised in a burns unit. With India, due to the strong pain medication she is unable to be in a burns unit and is in CRITICAL CARE UNIT at THE ROYAL CHILDRENS HOSPITAL Melbourne .

To date India has had two painful surgeries where her whole body was threated and dressed. She has another surgey scheduled for the 10th of April to change her dressings and insert a new feeding tube. The last two surgeries have taken over  6 hours.   She has also developed a blood infection which is being treated with antibiotics.

Throughout this whole ordeal her mum SUZANNE has been by her side. She has been unable to work since the begining of February when India was diagnosed, and the long ordeal in hospital started. After exhausting all avenues for finance SUZANNE is without income for more than 10 weeks.
Relying on the generosity of FRIENDS, FAMILY and WORK COLLEGUES.

WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP
DONATE and SHARE
The path to recovery is going to be a long tough road, along with treatments and medical bills and rehibilitation being costly. Living 3 hours away from the hospital means accommodation  can not always be provided by the hospital, which needs to be paid for by family. Donations would also help with this, alleviating some of the stress from SUZANNE.

DONATIONS and PRAYERS will be profoundly appreciated.

UPDATES WILL BE POSTED TO INDIA'S  PAGE
