I'm 1in5 Cross Canada Tour

A Journey for all Canadians...

Join one remarkable young man on an inspiring journey across Canada.

In celebration of what makes us Canadian - quiet strength, fierce community pride and passionate love for our national game.

In support of Canadian youth.

In service of a new conversation about sexual abuse and addiction.

To inspire new possibilities for our neighbours affected by mental illness.

It starts with ONE STEP.

On May 1, Paulie O’Byrne will set off from Victoria, B.C on a 9600km journey to St. John’s, Newfoundland, stickhandling a ball across this great nation to smash the stigma around mental illness, sexual abuse and addiction, and to raise funds to better support those affected by them.

Because Paulie is 1 in 5.

This is your invitation to join Paulie on his journey. A journey for all Canadians living with mental illness and those of us who care about them.

BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to smash the stigma.

BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to have a new conversation.

BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
to change the game for those affected by mental illness.

BECAUSE IT’S POSSIBLE
TOGETHER.

The Ultimate Goal

A percentage of the funds (up to $500,000) will be donated to 10 established organizations across Canada who exemplify similar values, vision, and mission to I’m 1in5. Organizations will be chosen using a comprehensive selection process by our Board of Directors and key project partners. The remaining funds raised ($500,000+) will be put towards the development of a lakeside facility for healing and recovery in Ontario. This facility will be a place of hope, peace, and, of course, courage. The facility will offer programs and statistically proven recovery methods for occupants. We hope that the establishment of this facility will create a community without stigma - where healing and recovery is accepted by society. A property search and purchase by the board members of I’m 1in5 will commence following the tour. Our goal is to keep this facility operating and helping to change lives for many years to come.

About Paulie O'Byrne
Paulie O'Byrne was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia on an army base before relocating to Mount Forest, Ontario with his family. Paulie played competitive hockey for 14 years and attended Lambton College in Sarnia, Ontario for Sports and Recreation Administration. He became a Canadian Certified Hockey Coach at the age of 20. His first coaching opportunity out of college was in Delhi, Ontario in September 2006, where his life would be forever changed by clinical depression, anxiety, and PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) after years of drug abuse and multiple suicide attempts. His tenacity, courage, strength, and hope have empowered Paulie to embark on a lifelong journey of recovery and survival. In 2012, he got back on the ice, coaching a Junior B team in Calgary, Alberta to a City and League Championship. Paulie now speaks to groups and at conferences about his journey, the road to recovery, and living with mental illness. He has spoken to over 30,000 people across Canada, and has been featured in news, radio, and film across six continents.
