Restoring the Ludwig's Former Glory

Hello, everyone- Matt Tolentino here. Most of you here on Facebook, emails, and social media already know about great deal about myself, my bands, and my musical endeavors. As you know, I am the bandleader of the Singapore Slingers, the Dallas, TX-based orchestra dedicated to preserving pre-swing popular American music from 1895- 1935, with a strong emphasis on the jazz age and the 1920s.
Authenticity is key to producing the sounds of yesterday so faithfully, and the only way to achieve this sound is through vintage equipment and musical instruments. I come to you today to ask for your help in keeping a particular 'member of the team' going strong.
Our 1928 Ludwig bass drum- with its painted head, it is the focal point of our vintage percussion gear. The oil painted is original, a factory option from Ludwig. Since the orchestra acquired it in 2011, the original paint has begun to flake, and in order to protect the head from any further damage, we have discontinued its use for close to a year (and using a substitute plain head).
However we are coming up on a new year, and want to bring the painted head back into the act. It is currently at Fegan Fine Art Restoration, Inc. in Dallas, where it is undergoing restoration- the chips and missing portions are being repainted and filled in, the head is receiving a professional cleaning, and after all is said and done, it will be covered in a light coat of varnish, to protect it in the years to come.
