Martin's Vet bill

That's the video of Martin that I saw on Fulton County Animal Services Facebook page. Of all the posts I see daily for animals in need, this one "got" me for some reason. I emailed FCAS and volunteered to foster Martin, I would pick him up later that same day.

When I saw him in person (and in feline) he was in much worse condition. I was actually scared he was going to die...in my house...on my watch. Someone from FCAS mentioned that at least he would know love and not die in cage. That only helped slightly calm my fear. His paperwork said they picked him up as a feral on 11/2/14 and two weeks later he stopped eating and developed a URI. He had weighed over 5lbs on intake, when I picked him up, he weighed 3.2lbs. He was tiny, definitely not the correct weight for a one year old cat.

The next morning  when I saw his sad little body on my bathroom floor, I thought my fear had come true. When he opened his eyes, I knew I had to take him to a vet. I knew that it would be expensive and their original estimate was between $678 to $1285. The final bill was $1732.37! Whatever guilt I had for putting that amount of money on a credit card was quickly washed away when four days later he finally ate on his own and he looked up and said, "oh hai".  Totally worth it. He still has the infection but I can tell it is leaving his body. He no longer has a bloody nose but is still very snotty and sneezy. I'll continue giving him antibiotics and will take him in for a recheck in a week.
