Help My Family Through the Holidays

I'm Mary Boyer, a single mom and freelance writer from western Pennsylvania. For those of you who know me, you know I've had a bit of a tough time financially since my divorce. Freelancing isn't always the most reliable income, but it is flexible, allowing me to be available to my kids. When you factor in the costs of transportation and childcare, it's actually about the same pay rate as most jobs in the helping professions for which I'm qualified.
After more than a year of struggle and obstacles, things began to look up this fall when all three kids were in school full-time, allowing me to concentrate on my writing. Finances were beginning to improve. Then two things happened. A couple of weeks ago, I wrecked my car. And December has arrived, a slow time of the year for writing gigs.
Now I am without a car in an area where public transportation is not available, and my income has temporarily decreased. I am truly worried about making it through the holidays. My children have witnessed their mom struggle for so long now. It is taking an emotional toll on me, and I'm sure that has an effect on them.
I am at a point where pride has gone out the window. Without help, I don't know how I will get through the month. It is my hope to raise funds to supplement my lost income in order to pay December's bills. I would also be eternally grateful to be able to begin a savings toward a replacement vehicle. I believe I can get rides for awhile in order to obtain groceries and other necessities, but I'm not sure how long that will last. The loss of independence that comes with not having transportation for emergencies is frightening.
So Iam asking for the good will of my friends to help my family and I see our way through this difficult time. I am confident that, after the New Year, clients will once again begin placing regular orders and my income will be enough to sustain us.
I have chosen a goal amount of $1500. Half of that should be sufficient to supplement my lost income. The other half would be a great start toward a cheap car. Any amount you would be willing to contribute, no matter how small, would be a tremendous help.
