HPC Youth Jamaica Mission Trip

Tax deductible
Hi, my name is Morgan and I'm a Youth Pastor at Hixson Presbyterian Church in Chattanooga, TN. Of all the great things I get to do as a Youth Pastor, taking teenagers on Mission Trips is my favorite. This year, I'm taking a group of 16 youth and adults to Jamaica to work at the Jamaica Deaf Village, June 20th - 27th. What is a Deaf Village? I'm glad you asked!

Imagine not being able to hear someone speaking to you, or not being able to enjoy music! You would miss out on so much! But as difficult as that is, it is even more difficult in a place like Jamaica. In the USA, we have a system in place to help a hearing impaired person receive fair treatment and opportunity. That system does not exist in Jamaica, and that means hearing impaired people there are often overlooked or unwanted. Going to school, finding a job and raising a family become near impossible tasks.

That's why the Caribbean Christian Center for the Deaf  (CCCD) is so important. They have 3 schools in Jamaica where deaf children can live and learn. But after students graduate, finding a community and a job can still be difficult. This is why CCCD built the Deaf Village (JDV) near Mandeville, Jamaica. At JDV, hearing impaired adults can live, work, worship and raise families. It is a wonderful community with an exciting vision for growth and providing income for more hearing impaired people.

But in order to accomplish this vision, they need the help of mission teams like ours. In years past we have built brick walls for the new Conference Center, sidewalks and driveways. One time we even offloaded 400 bags of concrete at 94.5 pounds per bag. That's over 37,000 pounds of concrete! The work is hard but it is also rewarding. The great thing about this trip is that while we are a help to the people at JDV, they are a much bigger blessing to us. By experiencing life with the wonderful folks at JDV, our students learn so much about what God is doing in other parts of the world, and what God is doing in their own lives.

Because we want our students to experience as much of what it is like to be a Missionary as possible, we ask them to raise the support needed to go on ths trip. This way, they must depend on God to provide!

And while God could literally drop a $9,000 check off at our door today, it is much more likely that He is going to provide through His people. We are working really hard to raise all the support we need (about $1,300 per person). This cost includes airfare, in country travel costs, meals, lodging at the village and construction costs. We have already raised over $7,000, and we are confident that God will provide all that we need.

Would you consider being one of those people? Would you partner with us to help us reach our financial goals?
