Hope For Haigan

Donation protected
As many of you already know, at 26 years old, my friend Haigan Jordan Gandy (a Cheraw native) was diagnosed in October of 2014 with an inoperable brain tumor. While brain cancers are rare, having a brain tumor in this location carries a 1% chance. This would be devastating news for anyone to hear, but is especially heartbreaking to hear at such a young age and just one month after she married the love of her life, Justin Gandy.   At a time when they should be planning their future and having the best years of their lives, Haigan and Justin are going through the unthinkable.  Not only is it emotionally draining, but the financial portion is more than anyone would be able to handle.

Since Haigan was diagnosed, she has been unable to work because of the side effects from the tumor such as headaches, dizziness, etc that the doctors have yet been able to control.  Therefore, the couple must depend entirely on Justin’s salary for everything.  Unfortunately after paying regular bills there is nothing left over to pay these extremely costly medical bills and to receive additional treatments.  Haigan receives MRIs every two months (in the beginning it was more than this). These scans along with a specialized doctor’s visit are between $6,000 to $9,000 EACH time and sometimes she has to have multiple scans when she goes.   Although they have insurance, the insurance only covers a portion of these fees and then Haigan and Justin are left with the rest.   Not only do they have these scans, but there are doctor’s visits to other neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuro oncologists, headache specialists and more, medications, and trip expenses.   As the bills stack up, that becomes another burden on this couple.

Recently, Haigan has discovered that there is a new type of brain surgery being done to remove tumors in the same locations as hers. Doctors are able to remove tumors that other doctors have deemed “inoperable”. There are 8 hospitals in the country using this new technology for tumors deep in the brain.  Haigan needs your help to be able to send her scans to these doctors for them to review to see if she would be a candidate for this surgery.  Insurance does not pay for these types of costly doctor reviews, but this could potentially be a lifesaving surgery.

Brain cancers can be some of the hardest to deal with and treat and the success of chemo and/or radiation is very limited. The best option is to remove the tumor. There are other types of very promising therapies that have been presented; however, having the financial means to be able to do these are an issue for Haigan and Justin.

Let’s come together and help Haigan receive the help and find the cure that she so desperately longs for.  Anything that you are able to donate will help ease the burden of this couple and help them to find hope during this difficult time.   All proceeds will be going to help with medical bills, pay for medication, therapy, doctor reviews, potential surgery, etc.  Please share this on your page so that we can reach as many people as possible.  Whether you are able to donate or not, most importantly please continue to pray for this sweet family. Thank you for your kindness and generosity.
