JOIN US IN HELPING GET THIS LITTLE LADY UP, ON HER FEET AND ROCKING THE NETBALL COURT AGAIN!!

WE HAVE CHANGED OUR IDEA SOMEWHAT SINCE THE VIDEO WAS MADE....EVERY $10 YOU SPONSOR  PUTS YOU IN THE DRAW TO WIN ONE OF OUR PRIZES!   (Just so you know)

My name is Nicole.  I am the Aunty of one very brave little lady.  My niece Gabrielle - we call her Gabby.

On 13 June 2016, Gabby’s life changed in a way that none of us ever imagined it would.  In one day she went from being an active, healthy 12 year old girl playing representative netball  to being paralysed and losing all function and movement below her waist.  We were to find out later that this was an auto-immune response triggered by the cold she had 2-3 weeks prior.  An MRI and Lumbar puncture diagnosed her with Transverse Myelitis, a condition that is essentially inflammation of the spinal cord resulting in a neurological disorder, causing paralysis below the level of the inflammation.

My family have learned alot over this past year.  They have fought for things they never imagined they would need to fight for.   And through it all Gabby has stayed strong and made some big progress over the last 12 months that's for sure.  In the earlier days she had no mobility, she was unable to sit up in bed for any great length of time, she was unable to stay awake, eat and my sister remembers simply praying for her to poo so that we didn’t have to also worry about whether her system was functioning normally. 12 months later, she is at physio 3 times a week, (More during the holidays) she is back at school all day,  working hard and achieving in all areas, but she is still not walking and does have a long road of therapy ahead of her.

Will Gabby walk Again??

ABSOLUTELY!!  SHE WILL WALK AND PLAY NETBALL AGAIN...... but she needs our support.

None of us imagined that it would take this long for Gabby to be walking again.  At first we thought a week, then we looked at 3 months, 6 months.  Now a year has passed and she is still working hard, celebrating success, and getting through some huge challenges.  The biggest fear my family face is that treatment will not be able continue.  They have all come so far through this it would be devastating for it all to be lost because there is no money to fund it.  Unfortunately her treatments are not covered by the public health system.  They have told the family they have done all they are able to do.

But there is something we can do.

SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?

WE ARE  EMBARKING ON A HULA HOOP WALK-A-THON!

Yes. We are getting our hoop on and our fancy gear and walking from Caves Road all the way to Margaret River town center.  Around 5-6km. That is no easy feat!!!  My goodness!!  But it will be fun and it will be done!

KINDLY SPONSOR US AND BE IN THE CHANCE TO WIN!!!

If you would like to get on board and hoop strut with us into town,  just head to the event page on facebook , you will find it under Hoop Walk-a-Thon, Lets get Gabby on her feet again.  Or send me an email.  In order to find sponsors I can give you a sponsor sheet or you can share this page around to all your friends and family.  I will supply you with a hoop for the walk if you don't have one that you can keep. It would be amazing to have you on the walk and among the celebrations with us.  After the walk we will be drawing prizes at the Brew House in town whom has generously offered to donate all us walkers some pizzas on arrival.

Most importantly please share this around to all your family and friends, give them the chance to be involved and in the draw to win some super fun prizes that are guarenteed good times.   Your support for us in this would mean the world and more.  Even if you are from interstate and aren't in a position to claim any one of these prizes, please consider sponsoring us anyway, your donation will have an effect for years to come, and will be gratefully received.

Just so you know......100% of your generous donations will be spent on Gabbys recovery and her treatments. This involves weekly physio visits, which on its own is $270 each week. My sister takes Gabby to visit a NeuroPhysiotherapist in the school holidays which is quite intensive.  Also they are trying to get to Sydney so Gabby can undergo the NeuroMoves programme with Spinal Cord Injury Australia. They did this last year and the programme was a huge help to her progress so far and really gave Gabby’s  therapists back home something to build from. It's not just one thing that is going to get her back up and about. It's a combination of many things, and it is going to take time, alot of effort and alot of help and support.......but we have full faith we will get there.

In advance I would like to thank you  and all our sponsors for your contributions, for getting on board and for your generous heart.  Even if you are unable to sponsor us at this time, we are grateful you took the time to read our story.
Thank you.

Before you go....I just want to send the warmest of thank yous to the incredible talents of this love Kristy Houghton from Feather and Wood Photography for the filming and time spent creating our little vid.  You will find her work on Instagram .  And to Dan and Emjay from Blue Child Collective for the song.  (Salt Spray, check them out on Spotify and facebook.)
