Honoring Mr. Frank Paterno

Donation protected
For those of you who don’t know me, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Emily, and Nick and I have been dating for almost 2 ½ years. The past 10 days have been a total blur, but to make a long story short, Nick’s father passed away extremely unexpectedly at 59 years young on Monday, January 14th. Although I’d only known him for a short time, Mr. Paterno made a tremendous impact on my life, and I can only imagine the impacts he’s made on the lives of others (family, friends, co-workers – the list is completely endless). It was apparent that he would do anything for the people he loved, and I would like to take this opportunity to gently ask for your support in helping the family to memorialize him appropriately and return the endless love and support he gave so often.

Due to the untimely nature of his passing, Mr. Paterno had done little to secure his future or ensure his affairs were in order. Now that the world has been turned upside down, it has become clear that almost impossibly, for a man who dealt with investments daily as a commodities trader, advising others on how to safeguard their futures and the futures of their loved ones, Mr. Paterno unfortunately hadn’t taken his own advice. Nick’s family is now faced with the harsh reality and financial burden of making arrangements to honor and commemorate Mr. Paterno.

Mr. Paterno loved his children endlessly. Jessica, his oldest, was his pride and joy. His only son, Nick (the absolute love of my life) was the love of his father’s as well. Mr. Paterno lived his life for his kids, always making sure that they had everything they needed as well as most of what they wanted. He chose the safest neighborhoods to raise them in and made sure they had access to the best education possible, regardless of the cost. He was so incredibly proud of them. He encouraged Jessica’s equestrianism, purchasing horses and travelling the dressage circuit with her as often as he could. He cheered on Nick’s athleticism, sending him to world-renowned summer camps and coaching his football team. Mr. Paterno poured his resources into his children to ensure they lived life to the fullest. He never did anything halfway. He loved to say, “If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay home on the porch!” In the last years of his life, Mr. Paterno’s constant companion was the woman he considered his muse, Jill Rafferty. All who knew them could see that Mr. Paterno and Jill completed each other in countless ways; they were over the moon to have found each other later in life, and they treasured every moment together.

Mr. Paterno was larger than life -- a man who always had a story to tell, most of which were so funny, they left you laughing hysterically and gasping helplessly for air. He set the perfect example of living life in the present and made sure to always find time to laugh.

Again, the deepest wish held by Nick, Jill and the rest of the family is to put Mr. Paterno peacefully to rest and memorialize him with love. Pursuant to his wishes, Mr. Paterno has been cremated. Funds raised on this platform will be utilized to their fullest extent, aiding in off-setting costs associated with his arrangements and Celebration of Life gathering which will be held on Sunday, February 10, 2019.

Per the family’s wishes, please refrain from sharing this link on social media, but if you know of someone who might feel compelled to contribute, please feel free to share the link via text or email.

From the bottom of my heart and the hearts of Nick, Jill and Mr. Paterno’s family, we are so very grateful for any and all support.
