Our Fundraiser "Honor 19 and Vote"
Donation protected
The 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution granted women the legal right to vote, and on August 18, 2016 women across the United States will celebrate the 96th anniversary of this hard-fought battle.
The National Council of Women of the United States is activating an awareness campaign to remind women and men of the power of our voice and our vote.
In 1873, Susan B. Anthony was under indictment for the alleged crime of voting in a presidential election (47 years before women could lawfully vote); here is her statement:
Friends and fellow citizens: I stand before you tonight under indictment for the alleged crime of having voted at the last presidential election, without having a lawful right to vote. It shall be my work this evening to prove to you that in thus voting, I not only committed no crime, but, instead, simply exercised my citizen's rights, guaranteed to me and all United States citizens by the National Constitution, beyond the power of any state to deny.
Now, here we are in 2016 at the precipice of a very important election and although establishing voting rights in 1920 was a huge victory for women across America, our voice and our vote is just as imporant today as it was 96 years ago.
Pre-Event Activities include:
- Social Media Activism and Outreach utilizing the hastags #honor19andvote and #96yearsandcounting
- Back-To-School Social Studies Class Toolkit
- Letter writing to all United States Governors
- Letter writing awareness initiative to all women elected officials at the state level and higher
The day's festivities include:
- Morning Media Appearances
- An Evening Reception
A day of Social Media Activism utilizing the hastags #honor19andvote and #96yearsandcounting
Please make a donation today to help us reach our goal of $1,900 to help fund this important work.
