Dear Friends,
1 in 5 Young Canadians have a diagnosable mental illness, and 75% will not receive treatment. As many as 173,000 young people will try to take their own lives each year, and almost 90% who die by suicide have a mental illness.
One of the main obstacles to receiving treatment is the stigma associated with mental illnesses.
The Brampton Girls Softball Association (BGSA), in partnership with the City of Brampton, the Provincial Woman's Softball Association (PWSA), and Softball Canada, will be hosting the HOME RUNS FOR HEALING event, to create awareness, inspire conversation and transform mental health in the Youth Sports Community.
In the true spirit of the event we have decided to open Home Runs for Healing to everyone. This will now be a 24 hour game, OPEN TO ALL AGES ans an unlimited number of players and/or teams.
As exciting as it would have been to break a Guiness World Record, we wanted to include everyone in this life changing event.
The game will start on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 9:00am and end on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at 9:am @ Sesquicentennial Park in the city of Brampton.
You can create a Team, join a Team or participate as an individual.
All proceeds will be donated to CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health), Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, as well as one of the world's leading research centres in its field. CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion help transform the lives of people with mental illness.
