Have you ever dreamt of tasting the world’s most delicious tomato? Our family is committed to making that dream a reality! Our farm has been in operation over 2 years now and have been supplying local restaurants and the John’s Island Farmers Market with what some say are the greatest tomatoes ever! As with any new business, it takes time to shake things out and find sustainability.
Growing these wonderful, local, year-round tomatoes is both a blessing and a challenge. Despite these challenges and growing pains we have kept pushing forward without additional outside funding. However, with a huge learning curve and the heat of the summer our production levels of tomatoes are down. We have had more than our fair share of challenges these first two years, but feel even more strongly today that we are doing the right thing. Supporting local is important, but add to that supporting local farms is crucial…this is our food, people! Farmers are some of the hardest working people. If you know one you should go hug them right now…seriously.
The time and need has come for us to be humble and ask for some outside assistance. So why are we asking for money? We had just recovered from a virus earlier this year. June and July were great months! We had tomatoes for everyone…and then not so much. The plants (actually the roots) became starved for oxygen. This was partially due to the heat, but there were other factors as well (if you want to know more, feel free to ask Shawn questions at the fundraiser). We had built back up an emergency fund, but unfortunately there are still bills to pay.
We are constantly learning new techniques and tricks to keep our crop happy. Holy City Farms is assured that we have learned these new techniques and tricks and we will be able to have a continuous supply of the delicious tomatoes that you have grown to love. Now you can help maintain your memories of the taste of summer for you and generations to come by making a financial contribution to Holy City Farms. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to get back to a sustainable level for our family farm. We are confident in our product and know we will make it with a little help from our friends and families.
